A Message From the Principal
First of all, I’d like to thank all of you that attended our first annual magic show. It was a tremendous success! We raised over $1200 to support our community outreach projects which are sponsored by our Student Ambassador program. I heard the “magic” was convincing and entertaining!
This was also the first week of CSAP testing. I am very proud of our third graders for concentrating and focusing on this important assessment. Thanks to all of you that helped prepare your child by providing him/her with a nourishing breakfast and trying to get him/her to bed early. Third, fourth and fifth graders will take their scheduled CSAP tests the first two weeks of March.
For those of you interested in learning more about our full day Kindergarten proposal for the 2010-2011 school year and possible calendar changes for next year, please plan to attend our SHE Pack meeting on Monday, February 8th at 6:00 pm in the library. We will also be discussing school safety and the results of our climate survey.
Last week there was a rumor circulating that Albertson’s on Smoky Hill and E-470 was closing. This is inaccurate information, and I feel the need to communicate this because Albertson’s has been extremely supportive with donations to our school throughout the last few years. Please continue to visit this store for your grocery needs. Have a great week!    -Danelle Hiatt

The Singing Hills Jr. Ambassadors are organizing a children’s clothing swap for Saturday, February 20th, from 11am – 2pm. Here’s how it works:
You may bring any unwanted children’s clothing items that you would like to donate to someone else, as long as they are in good condition (no holes, tears, etc.), and appropriate (please, no alcohol/tobacco/violent references). You may choose to be present for the duration of this event, or just a portion.
The Jr. Ambassadors will set you up with a space to display your items, and assist you with labeling as well. If you need help, find a Jr. Ambassador or volunteer to help you make signs and organize your items. Jr. Ambassadors can be identified as students wearing RED Jr. Ambassador t-shirts, and adult volunteers will be wearing bright ORANGE stickers.
When the event is over we will do our best to transport ALL unwanted and unclaimed items to ECCO, our local non-profit donation organization, or a local Goodwill store.
This is a great opportunity to donate those items your children have outgrown, and at the same time receive items that you need now – all for FREE! Not only can we save money as a community, but recycling is a great way to help our environment!!!
***Please keep in mind, that for this type of event, we do NOT have receipts to give to you for tax purposes. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Work Gloves for Haiti
Some of our conscientious and caring Ambassadors decided they would like to begin collecting work gloves for volunteers and community members in Haiti working to rebuild that region after the terrible earthquakes. Collection boxes have been placed in our school to collect the gloves. Please consider making a donation.
Jump Rope for Heart
Jump Rope for Heart activities will take place the week of February 22-26 during your child’s Specials time. All students will be participating in jumping events; fundraising for this event is optional. This event helps raise money for people who have cardiovascular disease, including kids! Friends and family can make secure donations in support of your child’s efforts by accessing the link on the American Heart Association web site. Look for more detailed information to be coming home very soon. Let’s help our children be heart heroes! For questions, please contact Ms. Seep at (303) 646-1858.
Kindergarten Parent Night
Please mark your calendars for Kindergarten Parent Orientation on Thursday, February 25th at 6:00 pm. We will provide an overview of our Kindergarten program and answer questions about the registration process.
Green Week Awareness
During the week of February 22nd-26th we are having our first annual Green Week Awareness to educate our children and community! Each day your child can participate at school by following these themed days:
  • Monday ~ Wear the color green to kick off the week!
  • Tuesday ~ Bring reusable lunch containers or try reusing the same lunch bag for a few days.
  • Wednesday ~ Reduce the amount of garbage by continuing to reuse items. Also, try using only 3 turns of paper towel and 2 water faucet pushes at school!
  • Thursday ~ Help recycle by bringing a rinsed out canned food and a plastic grocery bag.   Friday ~ Using natural sunlight to conserve energy is important. We will be practicing this throughout the building!
We are very excited to implement these green tips at school. We look forward to student participation!
Infinite Campus Update!

The Elizabeth C-1 School District is using a new student information system this school year.
Infinite Campus allows access to parents and students to track grades, schedules, and homework all via an internet connection through the Parent Portal.
The high school and middle school have been offering grades tracking to parents via internet, now the elementary school will offer the same to parents through what is called the Parent Portal. The Parent Portal  is available to high school and middle school parents currently. Singing Hills will begin using the Parent Portal for parents to access attendance and previous grade reports during fourth quarter.
As the new system comes on line through our school, parents will receive information on how to access the system and what will be required to log in.
Additionally, the Infinite Campus system allows us to mass email parents about important school happenings, events and information.  We used the Messenger aspect of Infinite Campus to email our families our school newsletter last week.  If you do not want to receive important emails from the school, please let us know by calling 303-646-1858.  If we do not have an updated email address for you, please let us know that as well.
If you would like more information on the new system contact our Main Office.  As new information becomes available, we will post it on our web-site.

Student Writing Support
On a regular basis, we will be posting helpful parent tips that you can consider when helping your child with the writing process. Tip # 6– Take a positive approach and say something good about your child's writing. Is it accurate? Descriptive? Thoughtful? Interesting? Does it say something?
From the Cafeteria
Many parents may not be aware that your child may qualify for a free or reduced price hot lunch. With the changes in the economy, this may be an option for your family. Applications are available at the school district web site, elizabeth.k12.co.us, and in each school office. For additional information about this program you can call Teri Maher at 303-646-3224.
Preschool Registration Information
You’re invited to the Elizabeth Early Childhood Program Preschool Screenings and Early Registration Wednesday, April 7th and Thursday, April 8th. Please call Chris for an appointment time, 303-646-6720.
Digital Timer Bookmarks
Our school store is now selling digital timer bookmarks. These bookmarks are a great tool to help your child keep track of his/her daily reading time. The bookmarks are available at our school store and cost $8.00 (while supplies last). We have put in another order because the interest has been so great!  The new order should be here by next week!
